Our story starts when one of our team members saw a sparkle in the eyes of girls in a village in UP. This was no usual sparkle because these girls lived in a place without electricity, their parents had never been to school and they could hardly afford a meal a day. The sparkle was of dreams that they had, the vision, the reasons, the justifications, all were there with them from being a doctor to a teacher to a businesswoman. They wanted to fly and it could be seen in their eyes when they spoke. What they needed was the freedom to be educated and to pursue their dreams. This was when Swatantra Talim was born. Born to walk with children who don't get the freedom to pursue their dreams and get the ‘talim’ they want. We believe that children are born curious and we should try to enhance this potential rather than binding them in structures made by us. We let them develop their own structures and build their own stories!
Our Vision is to see every village as a centre of innovation and every child as an innovator facilitating social change, while our mission is to nurture scientific temper among rural children through contextual, hands-on curriculum and pedagogy.
Our Mission on the other hand, is to nurture scientific temper among rural children through contextual, hands-on curriculum and pedagogy.
And, we aim to co-create spaces - both mental and physical where children can learn through their own experiences and make their own decisions.
