Swatantra Talim is founded with the objective of giving children the power to make decisions and be an active part of the learning and education process. The idea is to contribute in improving the educational methodology used in mainstream education of the country, to bring the best in education within the reach of everyone and to support the effort to explore, discover, learn and create.

At present Swatantra Talim has been focusing on three main areas of work:
Khoj-Yaan (In a) Ramdwaari and b) Primary Government Schools) - pre-primary to grade 5
Khoj Shaala (Malsarai) - grade 6-10
Design Studio (makers' Space in Aashiana, Lucknow) - grade 10+
S-Shakt (Partner Location Based) - for teachers
The organisation also conducts teacher capacity-building workshops in the name of S-Shakt for primary and middle school teachers.
