We want education to not just reach children’s minds, but for it to reach their value system, their soul. We want it to free them, make them more open to conversations and empathy. And for them to learn to pay it forward.
If we just think for a moment to give our children considerable freedom to choose what to learn, how to learn, and to some degree, even when to learn, what do you think would happen? Would they ever bother to learn anything worthwhile?
At Swatantra Talim we give children and youth a space where they can truly practice, rather than just read, about the principles of free speech, free association, and the freedom to choose their own learning paths. The important principle is that children are motivated to learn, and they learn better, to the extent that they have choice over how and what they learn. With children and the community around them, we try to weave in elements of stories, participation, expression, making and tinkering, by development and change in stages through creating, inspiring, empowering and disseminating!
